Recently Andrew Lawrence of Gentleman Scholar Signs was featured on the Chronicle as the man behind many of the signs about the City. Andrew Lawrence peered out from under his Giants cap and delicately applied a paintbrush full of 18-karat gold leaf to a front window at Rich Table, the critically acclaimed Hayes Valley restaurant from chefs Sarah and Evan Rich.

The Riches had decided it was time to graduate from the vinyl sign they’ve had since opening their hit restaurant three years ago. So they called Lawrence, the man behind Gentleman Scholar Signs — and one of California’s few remaining gold leaf gilders.
