This is a Rawson & Evans gold leaf sign reproduction piece from the turn of the century. The sign uses various hand lettering and gold leaf techniques including the application of 23 karat gold leaf. They were the first to patent glue chipping which can be seen in the center of the letters. It’s achieved by utilizing a special glue and sandblasting to get the chipping effect on the inside of the glass. The piece is comprised of 23 Karat burnished & matte gild along with 12 Karat White Gold, Asphaltum and enamel paint – painted reverse on the back of the glass.
